iPod Touch is basically iPhone without phone feature. iPod Touch was designed in 2008 as a small device focused on music mp3 playback. In following years iPod Touch grew into a full portable media player. It supports recording 720p video and 960 x 640 still photos via a back camera. With VGA adapter it supports 1024 by 768 pixels. iPod Touch has a 3.5-inch retina display with high contrast and resolution of 960×640. iPod Touch is 4.4 inches (111.0 mm) high and 2.3 inches (58.9 mm) wide.
Portable mp3 players usually carry hard drives. This makes them bulky and heavy. iPod Touch has either 32GB or 64GB of flash memory. Apple rates its iPod Touch with rechargeable lithium-ion battery to last 22 hours of audio playback and 5 hours of video.
iPod Touch has no access to cellular networks, GPS navigation. Although the SMS and Phone apps are included on the iPod touch software, they are disabled and therefore not visible. Because it lacks phone abilities, it’s slimmer and lighter than the iPhone. It’s 0.28 inch (7.2 mm) deep and weighs 3.56 ounces (101 grams).
iPod Touch has 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth® 2.1 + EDR. Connected to the internet you have an access to Maps-location based service
3rd party apps for the iPod Touch were not available for a long time. The only way to get apps on iPod Touch was through Apple’s App Store, which is a branch of iTunes Store. iPod Touch has been hacked and 3rd party apps made available.
iOS 4 is the operating system of iPod Touch. iOS is expected to be released in September 2011.
